Q: Can Hepatitis C be cured?


A: YES! 

 

Q: Who should be tested for hepatitis C?


A: Risk factors for hepatitis C are current or former injection drug users, getting a blood transfusion or a solid organ transplant before July 1992, receiveing clotting facotrs before 1987, chronic hemodialysis, persons with HIV infection, children born to HCV positive mothers and persons with known exposure to hepatitis C through healthcare and other means.

 

Q: Is there a vaccine for hepatitis C?

A: There is no current vaccine for hepatitis C.

 

Q:What are the most common signs of hepatitis C?

A: Most people with hepatitis C do not have any symptoms.  The two most common symptoms are right upper quadrant pain and fatigue.

 

Q:  How do I know if I have hepatitis C?

A: Hepatitis C is diagnosed by a blood test. 

 

Q: Does everybody get chronic hepatitis C?

A:  Only about 80-85%  of individuals exposed to hepatitis C go on to have chronic hepatitis C.  15-20% of individual their body recognizes the virus and clears their blood of the virus.
